Stories & Memories of Mrs Leah Miriam Heidingsfeld

Remembering Heidingsfelds

To the family, I personally did not know the deceased, however I did know someone with that name about 50 years ago. I sent a message to my cousins who once lived in Sydney, and the first (Baila) now lives in St. Louis, MO, and the other moved to Melbourne.

I sent them the following message and they responded below.

Dear Australian cousins,

Is this someone you knew?

Curiously, while I did not know her, the family HEIDINGSFELD is one I remember from the early years (1965-1967) Jerry and I lived in Haifa. I used to buy stamps for my stamp collection from an elderly man with this name. He had a sort of little concession place within a rather modest "kol-bo" type of shop, near the old Technion, in Hadar HaCarmel.

I don't think I ever crossed paths with another person with that name. What are the odds she (or her husband) was related to him?

We were close to her late parents in law, Prof. and Mrs. Heidingsfeld. They were outstanding educators and taught my mother as a child in Australia and also taught my siblings and me growing up in Sydney. I did not know Leah and Yehudo at all, but I appreciate you reaching out to us with this information . warm regards, Baila

And from Michael Matzner to Baila and me

Hi

I was also a pupil of Professor Heidingsfeld and also often learnt with YEHUDO – PLEASE convey my deepest sympathies

May you be comforted among the mourners of Tzion and Yerushalayim
