As a physician, I was once called to attend Rabbi Baras during davening on Rosh Hashono at shul. I found him on the floor of the library suffering from abdominal pain. I questioned him about his symptoms, and he explained that he knew that his pain was coming from the stress of intense worry. It seemed that a student of his was going through some difficult emotional problems, and Rabbi Baras was distraught over how to help him. This was a graphic example of how devoted he was to his students. Rabbi Baras, we miss you. Thank you for all you gave to us in so many ways. Lee Shonfeld, M.D.
