Stories & Memories of Tzion Goldstein

A beloved brother-in-law

My brother-in-law Chaim Avraham Tzion Goldstein a”h was a very special person who I grew to admire for his strength in Yiddishkeit, his love and care for his family and his determination to fight for what he believed was right.

Tzion was a true Yorei Shomayim in every sense of the word. He made sure that everything he did was according to Halacha B’hidur. He followed all of the Chabad customs stringently, no matter how unwell he may have felt. Tzion gave up all of the materialistic pleasures of life as a young teenager, of his own free will, to follow the Torah and chassidus, and this earned him great admiration from all those who knew him.

Tzion loved his family very much and would take great offense if anything was said in a negative way about any family member. Even when he was in extreme pain he would worry about every detail of his family’s well-being spiritually and physically, whether it was his wife and children or his father and sisters.

Tzion fought valiantly against the terrible disease that was ravaging his body. He stood very strong against the current system of medical protocols that encourages even young people to give up way too early; he never gave up. Even though some medical caregivers were attempting to discourage him, he insisted on doing everything possible to extend his life in this world, no matter how painful or uncomfortable it may have been. He was very unsatisfied with the attitude and thought process of these doctors. I don't know many people who could have survived what Tzion went through for the last ten years of his life, and to the very last second he had no intention of giving up.

I would like to mention my high regard and respect for two angels that Hashem sent us who came in the form of doctors, Dr. Myron Arlen a"h and ylt”a Dr. Yaakov Lifshitz. They went against the tide and did the best to their ability to assist Tzion in fighting the battle, with hope and encouragement. They fought for Tzion with all their power and enabled him to experience nearly four more precious years with his young children.

I miss my brother-in-law Tzion very much and can't wait for Moshiach to show up in plain sight, as the Rebbe said would happen in our generation, so we can all be reunited in this world.
