My main acquaintance with Tzion a”h was acquired during his battle with the terrible illness. I discovered a unique character of heroism and bravery. He suffered terribly and accepted his suffering with love and never complained. And if this were not enough he also fought and did all he could to receive help and care in the hospital, and this too was tied up with obvious difficulty. Although he was hospitalized and under their authority he fought for this privilege with determination in a way that evoked awe. He was permeated with the awareness and the sense of the importance of his role as a father and the head of a family, and this recognition gave him the strength, determination and discipline to fight and to hold on to life with all his strength. Indeed, this determination and discipline lengthened and gave him more time to live, and as long as he was alive as a soul within a body he truly modeled and symbolized the figure of a living being. With his behavior he served as an essential model of the vitality and preciousness of the life of a Jewish person. May his memory be for a blessing

קווים לדמותו של ר' ציון ע"ה גולדשטיין את עיקר היכורותי עם ציון ע"ה רכשתי תוך כדי מאבקו במחלה קשה והיתגלתה לפני דמות הוראית ואמיצה עשוי' ולאחת. הוא התייסר קשות וקיבל יסוריו באהבה ומעולם לא התלונן. ואם לא די בזאת הוא גם נאבק ועשה הכל על מנת לקבל עזרה וטיפול בבית הרפואה שגם זה הי' כרוך בקשיים ניכרים ולמרות היותו מאושפז ונתון למרות בית הרפואה נאבק על זכות זאת בנחישות ובצורה מעוררת השתאות. הי' חדור בהכרה ובתחושת נחיצות תפקידו כאבא וראש משפחה והכרה זאת נתנה לו את העוז, אומץ וגבורה להאבק ולהיאחז בכל מאמצי כוחו בחיים ואמנם האומץ והגבורה הזאת האריכה ונתנה לו עוד זמן חיים. וכל עוד היותו חי נשמה בגוף הוא באמת גילם וסימל את התואר איש חי. הוא היווה דוגמה בעצם התנהלותו לעוצמת ויקר החיים של האדם היהודי. יהי זכרו ברוך ר' גפין
